Clivia will grow again from tubers left in the ground, however since they are slow growing their control is easy to manage. A plant that grows well in shade and has a completely different leaf and flower colour is the Chatham Island forget me not. It has large round leaves and blue flowers. Brunnera, Heuchera, Hostas and Hydrangea all grow well in the shade. If you were after a climber – Clematis paniculata likes its roots in the shade and will climb a tree or fence to have the flowers in the sun. Tecomanthe speciosa is an evergreen climber that will grow in shade but does not like frost. Lots of ideas to take to your garden centre!
