Hi there, I want to grow 4 medium size trees of fruit at my home, can you please advise what fruit trees I can grow easily at home. I wants these tress in medium size. I have digged 4 ground holes of 1meter x 1meter and 1meter deep as well. All these holes are 3meter apart from each other in straight line. Soil is too sandy and too much stones as it’s new built property. I am planning to fill these holes with compost. Plz advise if I am doing right.
I have chosen lime as one of Tree, can you please advise what other medium size trees I can grow to get good crop of fruit for my family.

Hi Lucky, You’ve certainly made an awesome start with the holes! It is important that the media you plant with also contains what you have dug out of the hole, so please do NOT plant in compost (or any new media) only, you can use a variety of media like compost and garden mix and good top soil, this mixture should at least contain 50% of what you have dug out of the hole. (remember if you have gone a metre deep you will get substantial shrinkage so make sure you plant higher to allow for this). As far as recommended plants are concerned, the world is your oyster really. If you would like to stick to the Citrus family than a Lemon meyer is a must as well as a good mandarin (seedless!) like one of the Satsuma varieties. (oranges tend to grow a bit bigger, so maybe a second Mandarin that comes ready at a different time. If you are thinking outside the Citrus family you can go for Apples pears etc. but most of these will grow to 3-4 metres and a planting distance of 3 metre is most likely not enough. If you are relatively sheltered maybe try one of the more tropical fruits like Cherimoya, Guava, Paw paw are some examples. Thanks the Palmers Team
