We want to fill our sloping section with a variety of low maintenance plants that can a tolerant of half and full sun and will withstand a moderate Wellington northerly! Hopefully something to keep the weeds down once established. What are your top picks?

I would opt for natives and varieties that suit your particular environment, Groundcovers whichwill eventually help to keep weeds down. Coprosma repens ‘Poor knights’ is a superb glossy leafed native with a great sprawling habit, ideal for coastal plantings. Size 50cm x 1m wide. A good Ozzie breed is Lomandra tanika. Size 900mm x 90mm wide and as a twiggy contrast to the Coprosma ‘Poor knights’ you can plant Coprosma ‘Red rocks’ which has been selected from the South Wellington Coast. 30cm x 1m. It has strong, red/orange coloured leaves and stems. Very tolerant of winds, dry, poor soils.
