I have some red onions and pickling onions that have big green shoots on them and was wondering if I can plant these in the garden or not. Please advise me if I can plant them is there any special that I have to do to grow them as I have never grown any kind of onion in my garden before. I know that they do take a while to mature.

Onions are grown from seedlings that are small and slender and have germinated from seed. Planting an onion that has sprouted will not work, but get some seedlings from your local store and pop them in because they are very easy to grow. The seedlings will come in a bunch together in each cell potted hole – you will have to prize them apart first into individual strands then plant these 20cm apart in rows 40cm apart.
