We have recently moved into a new house in St Johns, Auckland. The port wine magnolias planted in a sheltered, north facing spot are looking terrible. Leaves are yellow and some are dying. I have fertilised liberally with blood & bone as well as sheep pellets and this seems to perk them up a little but only very temporarily. Can you tell me what else I can do?

Your magnolia may be suffering from this heat and if in Sun (which they are best in semishade) could be under stress from their environment. Try using the organic food Nourish all purpose organic fertiliser from Kiwicare to give a sustained release food.
