We have some old boxed garden beds that we want to plant into vegetables but they are full of weeds, is there a product that kills the weeds but doesn’t require removal of the dead weeds before it is safe to plant? I.e that we can mulch the dead stuff into the soil and then plant?

I would not recommend mulching the dead weeds back into the garden, best to remove altogether from the site. Do it once, do it right. There are a few products available to kill weeds depending on whether you want to go organic or chemical. If you are choosing not to go organic you could use broad spectrum, non-selective herbicide such as Glyphosate 360 or Yates Zero Rapid Weedkiller. And there is Yates Natures Way Greenscape which gives most effective control of young, fast growing weeds. On stubborn perennial weeds and grasses. A second application after 3-5 days will assist control. Established perennial weeds are not well controlled though with this product.
