I wish to replace the pittosporum & camelia trees which are along our front fence line as they get too high, are old & straggely. they also drop a lot of leaves & flowers which blow into our garage which is a continual sweeping job. could you advise me on what trees will may be suitable within the following parameters? – compact growth & looks good – maximum height about 2 metres. – don’t drop leaves or flowers – full sun – relatively dry soil as area is well drained.

To address the question of leafdrop first, all trees drop leaves to one degree or another (just like we humans shed skin I guess). The heights are always looked at approximately as Trees and Shrubs continue growing, although can be pruned regularly. There are a few suggestions to look into but I recomend visiting your local Palmers Store as the knowledge of local conditions and plants that do well in them is available for free. Take a look in the back of the Palmers Manual of Trees and Shrubs for lists of plants recommended for dry places and medium shrubs 1-2m.
