I planted some lettuces cauliflower silverbeet and cabbage a few moths ago and pretty much all my lettuces have gone slimy and look rotten all the way through they look fine on the outside and the leaves on the other veges are going yellow would this be because of not enough room in the garden??

It sounds as though there has been too much water and not enough air movement, perhaps your theory of planting too close has accelerated this problem. Yellow leaves is often a sign of waterlogging. Good drainage and planting on mounds in the vege patch will often help. Other causes could be a lack of available food, frost damage or the use of compost that was a little ‘fresh’. I would suggest digging up a lettuce with a spade full of its dirt and bringing it to your nearest store for a second opinion.
