There are wee white mites flying around my kitchen herb garden; are they causing any harm and can be ignored, or should I ‘eradicate’ and with what?

From what you describe, these are most likely to be Whitefly – tiny, white moth like insects. They are a pest as they suck the sap from the plants. They are often worse when there is minimal air movement around the crop plants. Improving the air flow around the crop will help prevent population explosions, but once large numbers are found, other control measures are necessary. Inorganic treatment is by spraying with Target. Organic treatments are garlic spray or Neem Oil and soapy water or Natures Way Insect Spray.
