We’ve had some great cauliflower this season but the plants that I have left in the garden have enormous leaves, but no visible heads yet! Should I wait, or have they done their dash? Anything I can do to encourage them at this late stage, or do I need to do something different in future?

Cauliflower leaves are usually large and seem out of proportion while the small cauliflower head grows and starts to mature. I would wait, they usually take 2-3 months to mature. Water well over dry periods. Apply slug and snail bait around the plants. Apply liquid fertiliser each month. Aphids and white butterflies can be a problem – spray with a good bug spray or insecticide.
