I’d love to get a vibernum snowball for my garden. I see there are at least 3 main types (European, Japanese, Chinese) – can you recommend which one would do best in Auckland?

I would like to plant some bushes with thorns under a bedroom window to deter burglars who have previously broken in through this window. The area to cover is aproc 1m high 4m wide and up to 1m deep, I would prefer a native plant, but that is secondary to the deterrent effect. The area gets afternoon sun and is reasonably well drained.

I have just removed a large fruit salad plant from the brick wall on my two-level unit. The aerial roots were following the mortor joints and what is left behind are the dry ‘shells’ of the roots and they are stuck hard. How can I clean these fibres off please, and also the black stain on the bricks? I cannot reach them to scrub them off as they are too high.

I have a Daphne which is looking very well and flower beautifully. It put on a fair bit of growth in its first year and some of the branches are a bit long and leggy. Can it be pruned? When should it be pruned? How much is it safe to cut back by.

Hi,

Can you please recommend which tree I should buy to get privacy from my neighbour ? It needs to be tall ,narrow , grows quickly and is low maintenance.

Also what is their approximate cost?

Your guidance will be very helpful and is appreciated.

Thanks

I have an espaliered apricot, I have been in the property for 12 months now and I suspect it is time for pruning but I can’t find any info specific to espaliered apricots. Is there anything specific I should know. It is now flowering and I live in Waimate ( South Canterbury).

Kind regards

Hi There
I recently lost my precious Cousin Lucy to Breast Cancer. I want to gift her Husband and children a nice outdoor plant to remember her by. I know that she loved Daphne and I thought a nice ornamental pot with a reasonably well established Daphne that could sit near the front door and provide a beautiful scent to remind them of her every time they walk past would be something they can take with them wherever they move to in future.
I am struggling to work out how to achieve this. It would need to be put together by somebody and delivered to their rural property on the north side of Taumarunui. I can’t find a garden centre near them that might be able to deliver it or that sells Daphne. Would Daphne survive in Taumarunui?
I would just come and do this myself but I am living in London.
Any helpful suggestions would be great.

I see online that one should not put coffee grounds on the garden due to growth inhibiting caffeine residue.
However I use a I-year open compost cycle with everything in it to produce a rich black loam. Would this method be OK for coffee-grounds?
Many thanks.
