I have an aloe bainessi tree.. It’s about 2 metres tall. Would it survive ok if we cut off some lower leaves in order to open up the view from an outdoor seating area? Thanks!

I have made what I think is good quality compost from my four bins. Pretty sure I got the right balance of nitrogenous/carboniferous material and it was fed with lime and blood and bone throughout, as well as added peat. I used it to pot up seedlings with variable success. Should I perhaps have mixed it with equal quantity of bought potting mix or is there a formula for making a satisfactory potting mix using homemade compost. Also, could I use it to part-fill troughs and planter boxers before filling up with a certified bought mix. Thanks

Hi! I got an email to say a $10 voucher has been loaded onto my palmers card. I wondered if it can be used in the Botanix cafe or only in the garden shop?
Thanks!

Hi There,

I am searching for supply of recycled plastic plant pots. I have a small backyard nursery where I am potting up natives that I have started from seed.

Currently I am looking for single pots sized around 0.25 ltr to 1.0 ltr ideally square shaped, however I have LOADS ( hundreds ) of seedlings that are well overdue potting up so I am very happy with any thing with in this size range.

My nearest store is Whangarei, is there a recycling system?

Thanks

I was wanting to change hydraganea flowers colour, I know to do this you need to change the pH of the soil but I was wanting to know how long it will take for the hydrangea flower to change? And if the the hydrangea has already flowered can you change the pH and that same flower will overtime change colour or will it be the next season when they blossom that it will change colour?

How do you kill oxalis including the bulb? Prefer a spray as some plants cannot be dug out due to downpipes etc. Thanks

We recently bought a large Prunus puddum from Palmers (Remuera). It was planted about a month ago in a sunny spot – in good soil. The leaf buds have burst but there is no sign of flowers. Is this to be expected in the first season?

Hello,

I have a hydrangea which I planted last spring. I pruned it back in winter after it had lost all its leaves and flowers. I’d noticed a number of leaf buds starting to appear and have been keeping a close eye in them and then today I noticed it looked as though all of them had been snapped off. What would be doing this and how can I prevent it from happening?

Thanks,

Amanda

Have you considered recycling plastic plants?
You could sterilize and reuse them instead of filling landfills

Please can you let me know if you recycle plastic plant pots. This week I had about 20 which I had put in the rubbish as they are not recyclable in my home waste. I looked yesterday in the Palmers New Plymouth branch and didnt see any bin. Thankyou

Hello, I was looking to plant a tree that is roughly one metre away from a small stone retaining wall, however I do not want the roots to spread out and cause damage to the retaining wall (just stone blocks, not mortar).

I think I need a deep rooted tree? I was wondering if you have any trees that would suit, ideally i’d like one with 1-2m of trunk and then spreads out.

Many thanks for your time.
