Is it true that some varieties of Prunus will not bloom abundantly in Howick because these varieties need frequent frost to trigger the production of flowers?
In particular, the smaller Prunus Pendula Rosea and Prunus Kiku Shidare Sakura?

My mint is growing abundantly at ground level, but small holes have suddenly appeared in a lot of the leaves, rendering the leaves useless and my mojito’s missing an essential ingredient.

Any advice on what could be nibbling away at the leaves and what I can do to save my mint.

Thanks in advance.

My tulips have finished flowering but as yet haven’t died back, can I dig them up and put the bulbs into dirt somewhere else or will I risk them not flowering next season??

Hi

I have been told that there is a sister/good plant that is best for the caterpillars to go to when ready. You have mentioned plants that they go to but not the names.

Thanks

In an outdoor container, the thyme appeared to be flagging and the soil dry but a moisture meter suggested otherwise. I thought the root of a parsley plant may have been taking up too much room so pulled it out and found the soil full of a huge amount of ants. Can you offer a solution without discarding the whole container and replanting? /would ant sand work?

I’ve just been given a large amount of freshly mulched material (pittosporum prunings). Is there any way I can safely apply it over the garden straight away?

Could you suggest some container plants for an apartment balcony that is long and narrow and gets approx 4- 5 hours of sun both winter and summer. It also gets some wind but not a huge amount. Preferably the plants would be easy care and not too tall (max height approx 1.6 meters and width approx 40 -50 cm). Thanks for your help.

Good Afternoon

Sorry for the strange question but how to you stop spiders from killing your outdoor pot plants please? I presume you can not just spray fly spray on them.

Many Thanks
Jodie

I’m looking at doing a flower bed but am at a lost of what kind of flowers I can plant. The area doesn’t get much sun and slightly damp, can you please recommend low maintenance flower plants that would be able to grow in an area that doesn’t get much sun (probably no sun at all in winter)?
