How do I get the best results from my potted deck plants ie Yucca’s which are yellowing on tip of leaves and our Bird of Paradise no flowers 2 years on?!  All pots are large and ample for the plants sizes and using sprinkle pellet fertilizer on all .

Hi there.
I recently returned home to find all of my lawns mowed and edges line trimmed. I’m guessing it was a lawn mowing service for the rental property down the back that got the wrong house. Anyway after initially thinking this was a fantastic gift I soon discovered that 5 of my 6 young (14 months since planted at 30cm high) star jasmine bushes had been badly attacked by the line trimmer. 1 bush was completely ring barked about 3 inches in length right at the base. 2 other bushes had full ring barking on 1 or more limbs but not the complete bush and 1 bush was about 3 quarters ring barked. I’ve wrapped and taped some kitchen cloth around the exposed areas and have been keeping the cloth damp in an effort to keep them alive,
My question is how resilient are Star Jasmine? Will they die where completely stripped of bark or is there a chance my first aid measures may help? Or should I cut my losses and remove the damaged limbs to save the healthy ones remaining? The diameter of the plants at the base would only be around 10mm.
Many thanks
Dan

I have small growing 5cm usnea growing all over on my maple and plum tree, which seems to be spreading fast. Is it harmful to the trees, or can I just leave it.? I live in Taupo.

My passionfruit is suddenly shriveling up and dying. I don’t know the cause, but I do notice that if looks as if something has been stripping the bark near the base. Do you think this could be the cause? What would do this? Is it OK to plant a new passionfruit in the same place? Thank you.

Hi
I have had a long-term problem with thrips on a small tree which has been in the ground for 2 seasons. It flowered last year with 1 bloom and this year with 2. I have to admit I haven’t been very proactive with spray but have just been advised that ‘Success Ultra’ is a good spray to use. I have used it, but my question is, do I leave all the diseased leaves on the tree or try and remove some of them? I have sprayed all the new growth so hopefully they won’t be diseased as well.
Are some rhododendrons more susceptible to thrips than others?
Thanks
Prue.

Hi There,

Most of the leaves of our Iresine plants chewed by some insects, only few leaves remain on the plant. Also there are some cuttings on some of the stems. We have used Confider spray but seems not helping. What should we do?

Morning Team

the other day we bought EnSpary 99 and Free Flo Copper to spray fruit trees and roses. the assistant advised that these could be used together. Does that mean they can be mixed together into one sprayer and sprayed. Or should we be spraying one and then the next

Cheers
Sheryll

I have 4 medium/large potted shrubs (of Lilly Pilly’s) outdoors and the soil is infected with a caterpillar type grub that I assume is eating the roots and slowly destroying the plant.
The pots are too large/heavy for 1 ordinary person to lift.
What should I do to eliminate this pest?

I have photographed the offender if that would help!

In my new property I have inherited a large protea which is flowering well, but it is very scraggly and has some dead or dying areas. How can I prune it to get it to bush out without destroying it all together?

My lemon tree has little piles of sawdust under some of the branches. The leaves on these branches are also quite yellow. Is this lemon tree borer?

We have camellias in pots that have done quite well for first couple of years but now seem to be losing leaves without replacing new ones. How often do they need fertilizer and which one is best?

I have agave that are being eaten by something. The bug is sucking circles and areas of the gel and plant and it’s leaving pale less fleshy parts as well as some that go brown. It’s not snails as I have been out at night and not seen any. What else could it be?? Could it be earwigs and what do I do to stop this? I have photos but I don’t know how to upload them for you to see.
