My fruit trees leaves are chewed and a few of the leaves are rolled up tight. Is this leaf roller caterpillar? How do I treat for this? (I don’t like using chemicals)

How do I get the best results from my potted deck plants ie Yucca’s which are yellowing on tip of leaves and our Bird of Paradise no flowers 2 years on?!  All pots are large and ample for the plants sizes and using sprinkle pellet fertilizer on all .

I understand it is not good practice to apply fertiliser and lime at the same time. Which product should be applied first, and how long do I need to wait before the next product can be applied?

i have neglected a bird of Paradise in a large pot and now would like to rescue it. It has 3 tall leaves on it – all have scale on them and they look tragic. I want to know if I treat it for scale insect, TLC the pot & Soil etc and cut it back to ground level, will is come away again?

Hi!
We have recently moved to a new house that has some tall Cyprus / conifer trees. They are showing some brown foliage as shown in the photos. I cannot see any bugs or scale in the plants themselves. Is this perhaps normal for this time of year?
Thank you,
Shelley

For your ideas on my michelia figo. It turned out to be borer which killed one branch and is affecting several others. I have removed the dead branch, and treated any obvious or possible borer holes on sick branches (borer spray direct into the holes). Apart from a feed to support the general health of the plant, is there anything else I should do? Would a general insecticide spray of all the branches and trunks be of any benefit – now or later in the year when bugs might fly?

Hi there,
I absolutely LOVE the Lisianthus plants so I recently bought three as pot plants. So far in lost one, one is barely hanging on there and the other isn’t much better either. A friend suggested that it may be aphids causing the problem so I used a broad spectrum aphid treatment but I’m afraid that may have been the final straw for the first one as it died shortly after.
The leaves are all turning yellow and very droopey and while it does appear that some of the leaves are being eaten, I can only see a few little white specks, they are hardly infested.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as these plants do mean alot to me.

Many thanks
Judith

We have a hedge of griselinias that we planted about 3 years ago. Each year we are loosing a few which is a concern now as they are getting nice and big, therefore hard to replace. The leaves on a branch start Turing brown, then all of the other branches on that tree follow suit and turn brown until the tree looks dried up and dead (I am assuming they will not come back in spring by gem selves??).

They are planted on a slope, weed matted and a thin layer of mulch. The solid is a mixed bag of soil/clay. I put general fertiliser on them a few times a year and Epsom salts.

We have been told this may be due to them getting to dry in summer, and then when they start to get wet in winter, this could be causing it. Could this be right? If so, would you recommend irrigation for summer months?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have dug up my dahlias over winter. I noticed some of them had been damaged with being removed, and I am wondering if I should remove any bulbs which are not intact before replanting them.

Do you stock a liquid frost cover? I want to spray my tamarillo trees this year. If you do is it one you mix up?

Hi,

I bought this Button Bush couple month back from Palmers Rotorua, and I grew it in the pot approx size 5×5 and now starting to look yellowish-not greenish color. What should I do to help this plant back to normal?

As well as for my Boronia, same case. Appreciate if you could give me some advice for it.

Thank you.

Is it ok to put leaves in the compost with eggs from passionfruit vine hopper on them? Does the heat kill them or do they just keep hatching?

I bought a Yen Ben Lemon Tree 3 years ago and it has been doing really well.
Unfortunately after all the rain we have had (it might not have anything to
do with it), the leaves at the top of the tree are curling inwards. Why would
it do that and can I rectify it. I was so proud of how it has grown and would
hate to loose it.

Hi there
HELP! Planted Camellia hedgeseveral months ago (Cinnamon Cindy) and for the most part its done well. In one particular corner though some of them one by one have turned up their toes/died. 7 in total now. They start off being a little less green than the other Camellias and the leaves beginning to brown at the edges (and then dropping off). On pulling the sick plant out I’ve noticed some slight powdery stuff on the roots.
Your help would be much appreciated.
Many many thanks

Hi

I have a 20 year old tropical Frangipani tree that I wish to transplant to the new house we have just moved into. We are still in Mt.Maunganui. How do I go about it, in order to minimise the risk of losing the tree? It’s very precious to me.

I would be very grateful for any advice you are able to give me.

My neighbor and I, who live East Auckland, have both got a disease/bug in our feijoas this year. Little black bits on outside and the inside too. Are other people having this issue? How can it be prevented? Thanks.
