I know how to prune bush roses buy pruning to an outside bud and removing any branches crossing the centre of the bush, to keep the bush open. However when it comes to climbing roses I am stuck as to how you get lovely flowering long trailing branches and the pruning of them so as not to shorten these branches. Can you help me please as I am pruning at the moment ?

Hi! Just wondering if you have any suggests for a plant that we could purchase on behalf of the Manawatu Multiple Birth Club for a member that has just delivered her twin boys today (one still born). We are wondering about a rose with a special name in memory of the baby that has died? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

With all this rain in Auckland I have put off spraying copper on the roses, should I just do it or wait for a sunny forecast for longer than one day?

Yesterday I met a lady who had a two year old rose plant which was fabulous. She told me two years ago it was one of Palmers Remuera’s best three roses but she couldn’t remember the name. It was a light purple colour with yellow centre, and very fragrant. In two years it had grown considerably. Can you help with the name please.

I purchased a rose and planted it, however I reaslied it was not getting enough sun so I moved it. It is not growing very well and most of the leaves are turning brown – what can I do to bring it back to life?

Do you or can you obtain Mycorrhizal which is a fungi which will thrive in soil where roses used to be. To be put on roots of the new roses and put in hole with manure in hole.

What can I do about growth coming from the root stock of a rose? I have tried to pull it off but it just comes back.

I have some standard roses that, despite being sprayed regularly with supershield, are totally covered with bugs (thrips and mites I think??) and generally look unhealthy (eg blackspot). Is there anything I can do to save them?

Hi

I would like to buy plants for friends who may be moving in the future, which needs to be easy to look after.

I like the idea of it being in a pot with colourful flowers and a strong perfume. A freind suggested the Josephine Bruce Rose what are your thoughts on this and can you suggest anything else

They both live in Auckland

Thanks very much
Wendy

Our daughter’s wedding reception is in our garden mid February 🙂 I have various bush roses so there’s ‘usually’ continuous flowers. I dead-head them regularly cutting down to a five-leafer but can I manipulate the flowering with the timing of my cutting to get the maximum blooms on wedding day?
