I’m new to growing roses. I planted three rose bushes and two climbers in June. When should I feed the roses with Blood and Bone and how often? And also how do I stop grass and weed growing around it? I’ve been pulling them out, but that’s a lot of effort and time consuming, is there anything I can get to stop the grass/weed?

Hi there

A number of months ago I sprayed my roses, but unfortunately it was “round up” not roses spray!! I pruned heavily and washed as best I could to get rid of the spray on the bush as well as in the soil around. I’ts almost 3 months later and the bushes are budding but they are coming out curly, light green and growing very slowly. Do you think it will survive and what do you recommend I treat it with?
Appreciate your comments.

I have some black powdery stuff on the leaves of my cistrus trees and a white, almost cankerous stuff, on the rose stems. What do I use to fix these problems?

Hi

I’m looking for a rose that I can buy in bloom for March the 24th. I particularity like white roses. The Rose is a memory of our mum who has passed and cannot be at a family wedding in person that is why we’re looking for something already in bloom for that date. What do you recommend?

Thanks
Joanne

The buds on my roses do not seem to be flowering, is there a reason for this? They have been buds for almost 3-4 weeks now.

Hi.

I have quite a few standard roses, mainly Iceberg and I have one Margaret Merrill. We have just built the house and all roses were planted this winter. The Margaret Merrill has terrible black spot. I have been spraying it weekly but it doesn’t seem to be improving and only has about 10 leaves which are all covered in black spot. It has also started to spread to the two closest Icebergs and worry it will continue to spread to all of them. Should I get rid of the Margaret Merrill. I have never had a Margaret Merrill before so not sure if it is just later to bloom than the icebergs which currently all look amazing (besides a few leaves with black spot)and will still come away or it it should be covered in foliage by now? Also is I do get rid of it all together, will the black spot be in the soil and will I need to avoid replanting a rose there?

My daughter is about to have her first baby and rather than send flowers I thought it would be different to send her a rose bush to mark the birth. Do you have any rose bushes with a suitable name? Also could you deliver to her address which is in Fitzroy, New Plymouth?
Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards from UK

My landscaper has planted three iceberg roses in a lawn area where the grass is butted up to the trunk. Is this okay as the only way to feed them is with a liquid fertiliser and I’m concern this may limit the amount of roses that will be delivered.

I know how to prune bush roses buy pruning to an outside bud and removing any branches crossing the centre of the bush, to keep the bush open. However when it comes to climbing roses I am stuck as to how you get lovely flowering long trailing branches and the pruning of them so as not to shorten these branches. Can you help me please as I am pruning at the moment ?

I was given a rose and it has been beautiful all summer. But now it is again dying back on some of its branches. I did cut the last round off below the affected area, but it is doing it again?
Their are also ants around also.
It is in a large pot.
It is a beautiful single rose.

Would love to attach photo but don’t know how. I am also house bound just now recovering from an operation.

I purchased a rose and planted it, however I reaslied it was not getting enough sun so I moved it. It is not growing very well and most of the leaves are turning brown – what can I do to bring it back to life?

We’ve just moved into a house with an old rose garden, it’s beautiful but the weeds are out of control. We’ve also just changed the carpet, removing an old woollen carpet. Can we use the old carpet as weed matting in the rose garden??
