Hi, I planted pumpkin seedlings about 3 weeks ago. It started growing beautifully but the stem has suddenly gone soft and turned yellow which is moving towards the root. My peas have also started drying up when they also started out well. Have you come across this before? Thank you!

Hi,

I have some mystery cardoon/artichoke plants that have sprouted in my garden and I’m unsure if I should try and blanch the stems to eat, or wait for globes to grow to eat as artichokes.

Is there any simple way to tell the difference between a cardoon and a globe atrtichoke so I know what to do with them?

We have a glasshouse which we just put up in November so this is our first winter. Can we plant potatoes for winter and what else would you recommend to plant during the winter. Also we have planted onion and beetroot seedlings and they are coming through really well on our windowsill, can they be planted in the glasshouse.

We have some onions that we bought and they have gone to seed and we have thought about planting them, do we just plant them in one of our pots that we have filled with mix already or do we have to do something else to the onion before planting it them also we have some potatoes that have sprouted and we are thinking about planting them too

I have some potatoes that have sprouted in the cupboard and are past being used for food. If I was to plant them would they flower and the potatoe that may grow mature. I realise that at this time of year maybe not a lot of potatoe but maybe some?? If you think it a waste of time that will be OK.

Hi there
I was wondering if you have a product that will control earwigs in the garden..
They sit in the bottom of the stalks of the silver beet I think they eat it also..
I would love to find something that would sort this issue out.
Thank you

Do chillis last each season? Or do you pull them out like tomatoes?

I have tried everything I can think of but the sparrows are still eating my peas to shreds. I have eventually stopped them stripping every brassica seedling but all three of my containers of sugar snaps are now just withered stems. I know it’s birds – I have watched them do it. Can you help?

Hi there – did you know there’s currently a competition open to schools, enviro’ groups and ag clubs to win $500 towards creating or developing an edible garden. It’s run by not-for-profit organisation Soil, Food & Society. Here’s the link: https://www.soilfoodsociety.online/edible-garden-competition. Is this something you could put into your newsletters? Thank you : )
