It is not the leaves that are going brown, they look very healthy, it is the flowers that are getting brown on my Hydrangea’s – almost like they are burnt. I am now presuming this might be due to heat – like a sunburn, but wonder if you have a suggestion please.

For good results grow hydrangeas in sites that give them partial or filtered sun, as too much bright sun burns both leaves and flowers which sounds like what is happening in your case. Make sure they get good drainage at all times, as sitting water leads to root rot, and causes plants to lose both leaves and blooms.
