I have a 2mx3m garden bed next to my garage that is all clay. In summer it is in full sun and winter only part sun. I would like to fill it with plants as you walk past it to get to there front door.

What plants would you recommend planting in that area?

Hi Jess,

If you can amend the clay soil by adding some gypsum and compost that would be great. If you can not do it straight away adding compost and manures over time will benefit the plants and slowly break up that clay soil.

However, if you just want to get some plants in the ground asap some options for you would be Hemerocallis (daylily), Canna lilies and geraniums which would be perfect.

Some natives such as Pseudopanax and flax may be suitable or if you want to go a more flowery look try Echinacea, Aster, Rudbeckia, Coreopsis and Sedum.

I hope this helps
