Is it true that some varieties of Prunus will not bloom abundantly in Howick because these varieties need frequent frost to trigger the production of flowers?
In particular, the smaller Prunus Pendula Rosea and Prunus Kiku Shidare Sakura?

Hi Nils,
In general it shouldn’t affect the volume of flowering, but if temperatures don’t drop quick enough for long enough the plant tends to keep growing and the distance between each flower bud is bigger giving the impression that there are less flowers (bigger plants but same amount of flowers). A good open space in full sun will also benefit the quality of the flowers (same for soil quality). Both these two varieties should flower okay in Howick.
Thanks, the Palmers team
