Hi…can you suggest a way to prevent this…..large crop ready to ripen now, but last year they all went brown and woody ……Cheers…Roy

Hi Roy,

The best thing to do to prevent any fruit from going dry at the time of harvest is to water the plant more frequently when the buds start to appear. Water at the base of the plants and not onto the foliage as watering onto foliage can encourage fungal diseases. Mulching is a good way to retain moisture and keep the roots cool in the dryer months. The key to juicy fruit is watering.

Harvest the berries in the morning, they are ready when they turn a deep purple colour.
