Why are my hen and chicken ferns yellow? They are in dappled shade.

Hi Molly,
Dappled shade is perfect for these ferns. The leaves do tend to turn yellow if they are receiving too much sunlight. It sounds like they are in a great spot but monitor throughout the day and make sure they are getting adequate shade.
The ferns may be hungry as yellowing of leaves is a sign the plants may need some nutrients. Steer clear from granular fertilisers with ferns and opt for a certified organic liquid foliar feed instead. Spray the ferns once a week to get them looking green again!
You can also add compost and organic matter to your soil for healthier plants.
