My potted gardenia often has buds that as they mature turn brown and drop off. So disappointing as it often has heaps of buds but very few actually get to flower. Any thoughts? I keep it watered and the occasional dressing of magnesium doesn’t seem to make any difference?

Hi Susie,
Gardenia often drop buds off this early in the season as the temperature/daylight is just not warm and long enough. As soon as we start to see prolonged periods of sun, the buds should stop dropping.
Later in the season gardenia can be prone to mites, and for this we suggest a dusting with Organic Diatomaceous Earth (once a fortnight). It’s also worth sprinkling some Epsom Salts over the soil as this will replenish any missing magnesium in the soil and give the gardenia a boost.
Thanks, the Palmers Team
