Camellias – I have two 1m small Camelias growing under the umbrella of macrocarpas ( which obviously sap the moisture. )They are doing ok, as the winter has been so wet, but it is already drying out – What advice re keeping them moist and happy over summer could you give please? ie should I place a bag of mulch around them or dig it in somehow
Thanks so much☺️

Hi Judy, You will have a challenge to grow Camellias successfully under a Macrocarpa, as you say retaining moisture will be the biggest challenge, we have recently introduced Kolush Garden Mulch and Seaweed, this would be perfect as it will retain the moisture and improve the soil quality, you can be very liberal and can a thick layer (10cm Deep) During hot summer months if you do water make it a deep watering but not too frequent to encourage roots to go deeper rather than stay at the top.

Thanks the Palmers Team
