I am trying to grow a wisteria in a large pot. I want to train it to grow up about 6ft and then have the racemes hanging down from the top (like a weeping willow). I have a strong support in the pot and have trained the stem around the support but there are new shoots and leaves coming out from the stem. Should I train these round the support or should I cut them off?

I’d remove them so that you have a good strong clear stem – it can be a very attractive part of the plant – but its really a personal choice.
