Place the bulb on the narrowed neck of the vase and fill the vase with water to just below the bulb. Adding a piece of charcoal will help to prevent algae growth. Place the vase in a cool dark place for 2 months, checking regularly to make sure that the water level remains just below the bulb. After the 2 months, and gradually over the next few weeks, gradually bring the vase into a stronger light position that is also warmer. The roots should begin to grow over the next few weeks. Roots must be present before the bulb can sustain leaf growth. If not, it will require longer in the cool dark position. When the bulb begins to flower, it can be kept in a well lit position, but not in full sun as this can prematurely age the flower.
