what kind of soil do ice plant plants prefer?

Hi Graham,
Ice plants are a type of succulent so they will need a soil that has particularly good drainage. A sandy-loam soil is best.
You can purchase a potting mix that is for cactus and succulents. I have also had success with a standard potting mix when growing them in containers. The key is not to water too often, let them dry out between waterings. They will still benefit from at least a weekly water through the summer months, maybe more if kept in containers but as long as they are not sitting in un-drained water they should thrive.
