Hi Brenda,

I have looked into this for you, the only information I am managing to find is that there is an Australian species named Pittosporum undulatum. (Australian Cheesewood).

The species you may be referring to however is Pittosporum Tobira that actually originates from Japan but one of the common names are The Australian Laurel. This is a perfumed variety and you can often find it in garden centres in New Zealand. I have seen this one, it is a nice looking plant.
