what bug or disease attacks the inner trunk of a Karaka Tree?
the tree is about 3 yrs old & not doing too well. It appears that there is something eating the inside of the trunk.
the trunk is dying from the top down & when the dead part is cut away the inside is black & becoming hollow.
can you help?

Hi Allan

Thanks for you question. Without seeing pictures of the damage it is hard to identify what insect could be harming your Karaka however treatment to control insects like this is with Organic Super Spraying oil by Kiwicare. Whenever cuts are made to a tree pruning paint should always be used to protect against insect or fungal infection. When treating the infestation spray with the oil as per directions.

Happy gardening
