We have camellias in pots that have done quite well for first couple of years but now seem to be losing leaves without replacing new ones. How often do they need fertilizer and which one is best?

Potting mix in containers should be replaced around every 9-12months – not just because the fertiliser runs out, but also because its physical properties deteriorate, which can lead to drainage problems amongst others. Camellia are best fertilised with a good specific Camellia fertiliser from your local Palmers store. They are best fed in late spring after flowering finishes and just before new growth starts.
