When I bought a Meyer lemon plant, I was told to pluck off the first fruits so that the plant would benefit in the long term. My lemon plant has already started to flower. Question: Do I pluck off the flowers now or wait until the fruits are formed?

Best to not to let it flower and produce fruit, so remove the flowers now. This allows the tree to use all the food it manufactures to help produce a strong framework which will support heavy crops later. The first few years the aim is to grow a big, vigorous tree. Spring is the time to apply frequent applications of nitrogenous fertilisers in small quantities while the tree is young. Read the instructions carefully when applying.
