Hi Charles,
Lily’s can be left in the ground before lifting for a couple of years, so you can most definitely leave them in the ground. The clumps of lilies will increase and you will get more blooms. Put down a layer of mulch for extra protection.
If you do want to lift them though, by all means lift them. Dig them out gently, clean them and store them in a cool, dry place where there is lots of airflow. Plant out again in late winter.
