My strawberries are ripening nicely but it is a battle to get them before they are being eaten by what looks like millipedes. Any suggestions on what I can use to get rid of them?

Hi Allison,
Things you can do to help prevent any insects from getting your strawberries are:
- Put some straw on top of the soil, underneath your strawberries to create a barrier and have the fruit not sit on the soil.
- Reduce moisture- do over water, it will attract millipedes, slugs and snails.
- remove any old and decaying leaves as millipedes like to feast on them.
For control methods now you could use a slug and snail bait such as Yates Baysol, Use sparingly and if you have pets avoid it altogether. A good child and pet-friendly product is Quash slug and snail bait. It may help reduce the numbers of millipedes.
You may also want to place some bird netting over the top if you haven’t already as birds also like to pinch them!
Thank you
