We have numerous Pinenut Trees growing. Would the Pine Needles be O’K for us to use on all our gardens (Vegetable & flower) for mulch or ground cover? If Yes, would we place them around while needles are dry, or wait until they have started to breakdown.

Acid loving plants such as Azaleas, rhododendron and roses all appreciate acid soil. Onions, garlic, mint and tomatoes are just a few of the plants in your vegetable and herb garden which would also benefit the acid boost using pine needles as a mulch. I do not recommend using it as a mulch for general use, they can inhibit earthworms (which prefer a more neutral pH.) Any plants that prefer a more alkaline soil, will not do well with a pine needle mulch. Some people use pine needles as a mulch so they can provide a dry, lasting, weed free surface.
