We are just landscaping a narrow path (concrete) along side the north side of our house. We have a garden approx 60cm wide between the path and the fence (stained a red brown colour). I would like to plant grasses or something at regular intervals then put down white lime chip to add interest and colour and break up the fence line. Can you please advise what type of plant would be suitable and not grow too big (i.e. over the path). It would be in semi shade.

Carex testacea would perform well here and with it mixed in with some small flax like Phormium Platts Black and rainbow queen and perhaps for some height some Yucca’s then you will have some low maintenance planting and contrast in foliage.
