When is the best time to plant for summer vegetables? Do you plant them indoor and move them outside when it’s warmer?

Hi James, If you have a little glasshouse (available at Palmers stores) you could start sowing your summer vegetable seeds mid August. In case you are sowing outside I would wait until early October depending on the weather patterns. Some gardens have their own little Micro climate, in this case you can bring the seed sowing back by a couple of weeks. If you are planting summer vegetables traditionally Labour weekend (the last weekend in October) is the time, but things like lettuce, silver beat and others can be done earlier. A lot depends on whereabouts you are (Taupo v Whangarei) and with the Global warming the weather patterns at the time will need to be kept in mind. Sowing/planting inside would only work for a very small period of time, light levels and airflow just doesn’t seem to work for growing vegetables inside. Thanks the Palmers Team
