What type of plants would you recommend in a garden that gets very wet in the rain but when it is dry the area doesn’t retain moisture?

I’d work hard at improving the soil structure firstly – by adding compost and other soil conditioners. I’d suggest that you consider natives firstly – they are best suited to coping with tricky situations in our climate and then have a look at our How To Guide on Plants for dry situations.
