Can you give me some information on the above fruit tree:

  1. We only have 1 tree but I understand from something I read on google that for it to fruit we may need 2 trees which may be a problem as we don’t really have room for another tree. Please advise.

  2. What fertiliser should we use and how often do we need to fertilise the tree.

  3. When is the best time to prune the tree and can you advise how best to prune the tree.

4 When is the fruit ready for picking.

Thanks so much.

Hi Joan, I haven’t heard of this variety, but Plums to benefit from having a cross pollinator variety nearby (a variety that flowers at a similar time). A good mulch (Kolush Manuka Mulch and seaweed) with approx. 1 metre diameter would be really good and just refresh that every quarter. Winter is the only time to prune, they fruit on last years wood so keep that in mind when pruning, but at the same time don’t let the tree get out of control – plums can be quite vigorous growers. Picking is really personal preference (if its falling off its just to late), quite often the birds will get to them just before ready to pick.

Thanks the Palmers Team
