Plum Tree – could be around 20 years old at a guess. It has never produced great fruit, pretty much the size of a cherry, nice flavour just really small. Anyway the problem is this year we have had no leaves – it looks dead – there is quite a bit of moss all over the branches so I’m guessing this could be why – if so is there something I need to spray on it to remove the moss or should I just give it a real good cut back.

you may find it is a combination of a few things. Encourage bees into your garden by planting things like borage and lavender as poor bee pollination can greatly reduce plums. Yes cut the tree back and also look at the leaves and see if tiny holes are all over them. You may have ‘shot hole’ disease. Kiwicare do a great spray for shot hole but google the name and see if the pictures look the same.
