Hi there. I shopped in your store on Saturday, as I had some gift cards to spend and we spent $416 on a range of shrubs and a tree.
Upon shopping again yesterday at another garden centre (Mitre 10, Whangaparaoa) I noted that the exact same items we purchased from you on Saturday, were also available at our local store.
What surprised and disappointed me however was that the same items which we purchased from you, from the same grower, with the same grower labels, were cheaper at their standard price tags, as follows:
1 x Cercis Forest Pansy tree(PB28) – Palmers price $59.99 / Mitre 10 Price $52.97

12 x Coprosma(2.5L) Karo Red, Evening Glow, Inferno & Lemon/Lime – Palmers price $18.99 / Mitre 10 price $16.49 each
As it happened, as I needed an additional Cercis Forest Pansy, to complete our current needs, I purchased a larger specimen from the Mitre 10 store yesterday and received a further 25% weekend discount($39.73) plus I received Air NZ points on my purchase.

Whilst we received Palmers Garden Club points (10%), I was disappointed that your regular prices were over 10% more expensive than the regular Mitre 10 prices, and I look forward to your feedback and will be wary next time I am looking at purchasing plants & shrubs from your store.

Thank you, Roger

Hi Roger, Thank you for your feedback. You are correct that the garden centres in New Zealand are all supplied by a very limited range of growers, hence, often you will see identical plants in a range of retailers, with often the difference being the colour of the plant label.
Palmers stores offer experienced staff that can help in garden design, planting ideas, planting advice and love to share their gardening experiences. Furthermore, the range and selection at Palmers stores is significantly wider than at any of the other garden retailers, offering the customer a significant wider selection of choice, so the customer can make an informed selection, this compared to other retailers who often will have a limited selection, purely based on price. We work hard on being competitive and with the rewards that the Palmers reward card offers (one of the most generous card available) at most instances are very close or cheaper than our competitors. There will always be promotional activity from any retailers that will entice a customer to come and shop and buy the promoted item, for example Palmers have been the leader in the price of vegetable mix for the last couple of years over the spring months and at several other fronts Palmers have been a leader (eg Biogrow certified solutions, to make it safe for our customers to control pest and diseases).
Thank you for shopping at Palmers and hope that a small difference in price at times, does not put you off at enjoying the experience at our stores in the future.

Thanks Ron Van Zuilen
