Hi James,
The best time to prune Feijoas is when the tree has finished fruiting. It is not necessary to prune every year.
Prune to allow sunlight and bird pollination through the canopy. Remove any spindly growth and dead or dying branches.
Feijoas are pretty hardy and can be pruned quite hard which is why they are ideal for hedging.
Prune on a dry day and use sharp tools, this will help to eliminate the spread of disease.
