I have been growing sunflowers for the first time and would like advice on how to prune the flowers after they have finished flowering? I don’t want to harm the plants by cutting the old flower heads as there seem to be more flowers appearing further down the plant? Also, are they annual plants and will only last one season? Please advise.

They are annuals – yes, you are correct, but sometimes have secondary flowers further down. If you cut the stem just underneath the older flower, the next ones should open up.
