Why are my pumpkins starting to rot before they have grown properly?

Pumpkins have a high water content and so are very susceptible to fungal disease. The humidity often found at this time of year also aids the diseases. The best you can do is to but something under the pumpkin itself to keep it off the ground and ensure adequate ventilation around each one. You may need to spray with appropriate fungicides – such as copper (which helps ‘strengthen’ the plants resources). Other fungicides are Saprol or Fungus and Mildew spray.
