My quince tree has a small dark larvae on the leaves. When squashed the bug has a sweet odour. The leaves appear to have been eaten but all the leaf veins/back are still intact. I have never seen this larvae before anywhere in the garden. What is it and do I need to treat the tree in order not to lose the fruiting crop?

Quince can get cherry and pear slug and codling moth. I would take a sample to your local garden centre to get a proper ID on it. Apply Yates Success for slug and codling moth control.
