my ranunculus are over their best and are making a seed pod at the top where the flower bloomed. do I cut these off and keep to plant and should I cut the plants down now

Hi Denise, I would remove the seed heads, but the leave the plants to naturally die down. This way you will have a better chance of success with the Ranunculus next year.
