We are reworking two beds – one is planted in bromeliads and the other in canna lilies. What soil amendments would you recommend before we replant?

Canna plants are not so fussy and as long as the soil at time of planting is friable and a good amount of compost is added to help retain moisture as well as gypsum added if your soil is heavy with clay then they will thrive. Bromeliads can be grown in garden beds, but to achieve success it’s important to take all of their needs into consideration. Light shade, extra-good drainage, a moist atmosphere and warmth are all important.
