Hi, I have a strip of soil along the edge of my back garden near the fence which I am going to turn into a nice space. What perennial flowering/non flowering shrubs would you recommend to plant near the fence, as I am going to plant my spring/summer bulbs in front of them. The area only gets afternoon sun. Thanks.

Hi Angela

Thanks for your question. It sounds a lovely area especially with the Spring bulbs too. Try planting Euphorbia for some soft green highlights behind your bulbs. It copes fine in this light level.

Chatham Island forget me not look nice for a tropical feel even with the bulbs. Daisy are a nice backdrop and tend to flower after the bulbs which looks lovely. If afternoon sun then Lavender will grow fine as well.

Happy gardening
