I am developing a fence line garden that gets more shade than sun each day. The rest of the landscaping theme is subtropical. I live about 30 kms from your Bethlehem store I was hoping you could give me some advice/ideas so that I do my planning/research before I travel back to the store on the weekend.

Hi Moni, depends a little on the width of the garden. You would need approx. 1.5 metre of width to create some depth into this. Probably start with some “statement” plants (layer 1) then create pockets of interest (layer 2) then fill left over spots with complementing (or opposite) leaf textures, or leaf colours (layer 3). The statement plants will need to provide some shelter for the subtropical plants that sit underneath this. You can adjust the above to suit the garden size as the layering (1,2,3) remains the same just on a different scale, Just keep an eye on the suitability of the plants for a semi shade position, you will probably use different fern (textures/colour) as well as bromeliads. The team in Bethlehem will look after you and show you different plant options. Thanks, the Palmers team
