Last spring the leaves on my boysenberry, raspberry and blackberry were riddled with holes. Not much leaf left.A lacy effect then they dried up and the buds as well. We got no berries. I did find some tiny beetles and squished them. Now i want to get in early for this spring. What would they be? Are they in the ground? How do I stop them doing the same thing this summer, please Thanks so much.

Hi Rosemary,
If all leaves have fallen off, give the tree and the ground around the tree a good spray with Lime Sulphur, then follow this up with a Free Flow Copper spray and Enspray Oil spray. This will kill all overwintering nasties.
As new growth appears, respray with the Free Flow Copper and Enspray oil separately and about 3-4 weeks apart. Keep doing this until the fruit is starting to colour up then you should be good! All of these sprays are certified organic so are safe to use on edibles.
Thanks, the Palmers team
